Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Arrives at Cebu's Plantation Bay Resort and Spa

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, the 11-hectare luxury retreat in Mactan, Cebu, has added a duo hyperbaric oxygen chamber to its wellness program, placing advanced hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) at the center of an expanded health offering on its village-style grounds.

Built to accommodate two guests at once, the hyperbaric oxygen chamber raises atmospheric pressure while guests breathe concentrated oxygen, delivered via mask or hood — the standard, fire-safe configuration for multi-occupant chambers, as opposed to filling the chamber itself with pure oxygen. The therapy is associated with accelerated cellular repair, improved immune function, reduced inflammation and faster recovery from fatigue. Unlike single-occupancy units common in most spa settings, the duo chamber lets two people undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy side by side, making it a fit for couples, parent-child pairs, or athletic partners recovering together after training or travel.

The hyperbaric oxygen chamber now anchors a broader upgrade to the resort’s wellness lineup, joining flotation therapy pods and Mogambo Springs, its Japanese-inspired spa village of thalassic pools and hot-and-cold spring baths. Resort staff say demand for hyperbaric oxygen sessions has grown alongside rising guest interest in recovery-focused, technology-driven wellness — a shift luxury properties across Southeast Asia are increasingly building into their amenities.

The chamber’s dual-occupancy design also reflects a broader trend in hyperbaric oxygen chamber use: rather than treating oxygen therapy as a solitary clinical session, resorts are positioning it as a shared, bonding experience. At Plantation Bay, guests can now book a joint hyperbaric oxygen session as part of a couple’s retreat, a parent-child wellness day, or a recovery stop between rounds of sport or travel.

“Guests no longer need to compromise between a strict wellness clinic and a fun family holiday,” said Plantation Bay management, describing the addition of hyperbaric oxygen therapy alongside the resort’s existing salt-lagoon swimming, sports facilities and dining as part of a single, integrated stay.

The move places Plantation Bay among a growing number of high-end resorts across the Philippines and wider Southeast Asia adopting hyperbaric oxygen chambers as a standard wellness amenity rather than a specialty add-on — a signal, industry observers say, that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is moving from niche medical use into mainstream hospitality.
