With high work pressure and a fast-paced lifestyle, “sub-health” is troubling many white-collar workers. At Hongqi Center in Putuo District, the building management has teamed up with a tenant company to create the district’s first shared micro-hyperbaric oxygen chamber space exclusively for office workers. When work gets exhausting, all they need to do is head downstairs for a convenient “oxygen boost” to revitalize their bodies.
On the 25th floor of Hongqi Center, inside the shared relaxation area, four single-person micro-hyperbaric oxygen chambers are operating quietly. During work breaks, stepping into these futuristic “pods” for an hour of “lying flat” has become a new favorite way to unwind for many white-collar workers in the building.
Customer Mr. Feng said he learned about the service through in-building promotions and found the experience novel and relaxing after trying it. “Oxygen inhalation helps increase blood oxygen levels, and I feel it’s beneficial to health,” he noted.
Another customer, Mr. He, shared his personal experience: “After my first session last night, I actually slept straight through until my alarm went off. My ears felt a little uncomfortable at first, but this is my second visit today, and it feels much better.”
Since its launch, the service has seen overwhelming demand for bookings. Currently, it is primarily available to employees of companies within the building, especially those in brain-intensive industries such as advertising and trade.
Zheng Yijun, from Shanghai Diecai Oxygen Medical Technology Co., Ltd., explained that the chambers can be pressurized up to 1.8 atmospheres—equivalent to the pressure at about 8 meters underwater. “For first-time users, we generally set it to 1.3 atmospheres to enhance comfort during the experience,” she added.
The project adopts a unique “in-building incubation” model: the micro-hyperbaric oxygen chamber technology and equipment are provided by Shanghai Xiangwei Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a tenant in the building, while the building management, Shanghai Xinglong Industrial Co., Ltd., handles operations and services.
Moving beyond simple commercial leasing, this internal collaborative model—where management and tenants jointly enhance building quality—not only offers office workers a convenient wellness option but also explores new possibilities for supporting services in commercial office buildings.
